Windows Firewall Service-Disabled Grayed Out. How often have you encountered problems with Windows firewall service-disabled grayed out? Have you ever tried to get to the reason why it was disabled? If yes, then you probably found it really difficult or even impossible.
It’s common knowledge that Windows Firewall is a powerful tool for security provided by Microsoft. However, there are some things you should know about its features and functions.
In this article, we’ll discuss ways to disable the Windows Firewall and get rid of the grayed-out icon.
Stop Windows Firewall Service
Windows Firewall is a free security tool in every version of Microsoft Windows, including Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. It’s a built-in network security service that protects your computer, or PC, from unauthorized external access.
Windows Firewall is set up by default in all versions of Windows. When it’s running, it’s active in the background and is blocking incoming requests to your computer from the internet.
Disable Automatic Start-up Of Windows Firewall Service
Now that we’ve stopped the Windows Firewall service from running automatically each time we start our computer, we’ll have to make sure that it doesn’t start automatically anymore when we reboot our system.
This can be by going back to the Computer Management window and selecting Services and Applications -> Services again on the left pane like before. Scroll down until you find Windows Firewall in the list of services again as shown above and double-click on it again like before as well.
Hide The Icon
The final thing we need to do is remove (hide) its notification icon from the system tray area once and for all so that we don’t have to keep disabling or enabling it manually all the time! This can be by right-clicking on its icon in the system tray area and selecting the Hide Notification Icon option from its context menu.
Disable Automatic Startup Of McAfee Programs
If you’re using any third-party security software like Norton or McAfee, then you’ll have to make sure that it’s not blocking Windows Firewall Service or any other important Microsoft services from running in the background.
To do this, go to your third party security software program’s management console. And make sure that they are set to Auto-start under the Services tab.
Disable Or Uninstall Antivirus Or Security Software
Lastly, if none of the above tricks helps you with disabling Windows Firewall Service on your computer, then it’s probably a good idea to uninstall your existing antivirus software or security programs such as McAfee or Norton Security and try reinstalling it again.
This way you’ll be able to reboot your computer without having antivirus software interfering with Windows Firewall Service again! If none of the above tricks works for you, then there are still other ways to disable Windows Firewall Service.
