Network Security: What Causes Ransomware Attack?

Looking to secure encrypted data? Learn what causes ransomware attacks? How to prevent it?

What Causes Ransomware Attack?

Network Security prevention is about identifying the causes of the ransomware attack and taking the appropriate measures to prevent them. Ransomware is a form of malware that encrypts and locks up your data, denying you access to it. It then displays a message with a countdown timer that tells you when your data will be deleted.

The only way to save your data is to pay the attacker, who will provide you with a decryption key for a price. Once you pay the ransom fee, the attacker may or may not give you a decryption key. And even if they do, there’s no guarantee that the key works.

How to Prevent Ransomware Attack?

After knowing some of the causes of a ransomware attack, let’s discuss how we can prevent it. Since this is not an article about preventing ransomware attacks, we will just touch on some of the preventive measures in order not to lengthen it. Here are a few things that can be done to reduce malware infection and protect against ransomware.

You need to maintain updated software. If you have any anti-virus software installed on your machine, make sure it’s up-to-date, i.e., has the latest definitions and signature files. Use another anti-virus software.

There are several anti-virus solutions available in the market today such as Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Norton, etc. If one anti-virus solution isn’t working for you or if it’s outdated and no longer effective, try another one. Don’t forget to keep this second anti-virus software updated too. Install an anti-ransomware program.

There are several free anti-ransomware programs such as Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware Tool, CryptoPrevent, and others. They can be downloaded from the web and installed on your machine. Ensure your backups are secure.

What if you have been backing up your data using external storage drives or cloud storage services like Dropbox and OneDrive? You make sure these are secure (i.e., encrypted). So that even if someone gains unauthorized access to these storage devices or unauthorized credentials for cloud storage services accounts.

Hackers will not be able to open your backups because they are encrypted.

Network Forensics

Network Security is one of the most important aspects of information security. If you want to keep your company data safe and secure, you need to follow a few simple rules. This includes keeping your system up-to-date, installing anti-malware software, and backing up your data.

Cyber Security is a relatively new field that deals with the threats faced by an organization in the network environment. It is similar to traditional physical security but differs in many ways. Cyber Security is the process of protecting the data and resources present in a network against any kind of cyber attack.

Cyber Security is not only protecting against malicious attacks. But it can damage your computer or steal your credit card information. Also, it is concerned about protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your data and resources.
