Learn what is Application Control Sophos? How it can restrict applications from accessing certain ports and protocols?

What Is Application Control Sophos?

Application Control Sophos is a security feature that prevents users from accessing certain applications. It allows you to restrict the users from accessing certain websites, which can be defined in Access Control rules. Sophos makes it very easy to turn on Application Control on an individual user account.

However, if you want to manage your users via Active Directory and do not have the WebAdmin console, then you will need to use a command line tool called ‘setsebool’. This tool can be used to set or modify SELinux booleans. It is a type of rule that controls whether a particular action can be performed or not.

For example, you can use the ‘setsebool’ tool to prevent a user from using FTP or ssh by setting all the required booleans. To use the tool, run it with ‘-P’ followed by the boolean value that you want to set for the user account.

Sophos Firewall Network Forensic Controls

Network Forensic is a free tool that can detect possible attacks and intrusions on your network and help you to conduct a forensic investigation. It can be used to detect if anyone is scanning internal networks or hosts, probing firewalls, and looking for possible vulnerabilities.

Sophos Firewall is a software firewall application developed by Sophos, which offers both a personal firewall and a router firewall. The personal firewall component is a client-based application that can be installed on Windows computers and Android devices. The router firewall component is available on most router platforms, but it also can be installed on standalone computers for use as a software-based router or personal firewall.

Sophos Endpoint Protection and Anti-Virus

Sophos Endpoint Protection is the endpoint security solution from Sophos. It provides integrated protection against viruses, spyware, hackers, spam, and other Internet threats. Also, it provides centralized management via an intuitive web-based dashboard for easy deployment and ease of use.

Sophos Anti-Virus was developed by Sophos as a freeware antivirus solution for home use. Also, it protects computers from malware such as computer viruses, worms, Trojans, rogue programs, and dialers. In addition to these core features, several optional features are available.

This includes anti-spyware protection, real-time monitoring of removable media devices, email scanning (available in public beta), network monitoring, automatic updates, and more. A console version is available for administrators to perform scans on multiple computers at once. Sophos Anti-Virus has won many awards including the VB100 award given by Virus Bulletin.

Sophos Endpoint Security and Control (ENS)

ENS allows IT administrators to centrally manage security policies across multiple servers and desktops. So, this is in an Active Directory environment. Also, it includes features such as file encryption to secure data at rest, and data access control.

This is based on user roles or group membership, anti-virus software installation with automatic updates, patch management, and integration with third-party AV solutions. This is like Symantec Anti-virus software or McAfee VirusScan Enterprise plus many others. Endpoint Security Control comes bundled with all Sophos desktop products such as Sophos Anti-Virus Plus or Sophos Anti-Virus Premium.
