Data Protection Fluid. How much data protection fluid should I use?

Data Protection Fluid is a type of liquid that protects electronic devices from damage caused by water or other liquids. It is commonly for preventing moisture from damaging electronic equipment such as computers, smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.

There are several types of data protection fluids available. The two main categories are non-conductive and conductive. Non-conductive fluids contain no metal particles, whereas conductive fluids contain metal particles. There are also various levels of protection for each type of fluid.

How much protection do I need?

If you are using a non-conductive fluid for a low-risk situation, such as a touchscreen tablet or smartphone, three to four drops will protect the device for up to 30 minutes. To provide maximum protection, use a conductive fluid and apply it one drop at a time to each port/connection point. What happens if I don’t use enough?

How long does data protection fluid last?

A conductive fluid can last up to 6 months when properly stored in its unopened container (check the expiration date on the package).

Once opened, you should use both types within 6 months after opening. Exposure to air and/or light can accelerate the degradation process so keep opened fluids in their original containers with lids tightly closed whenever possible. It is okay to open the container, apply some of the fluid to your device and then close the container again.

However, if you leave the container open for a long period of time or repeatedly open and close it, this can degrade the fluid. If your data protection fluid is exposed to air and/or light, it is important to note that most data protection fluids will change color. This is normal and does not affect their function.
