Secure Access Service Edge Use Cases

In this article, we will read some secure access service edge use cases that you can copy within your company. So, read on to know more.

Secure Access Service Edge Use Cases

One of the most common uses of secure access service edge or SASE is to support guest access. Here are some use cases that are using SASE to support guest access:

Support Guest Access to the Internet

In this scenario, the hotel has deployed a SASE in a public place like a lobby or restaurant. The guests can access the Internet by logging into the SASE with their ID and password. Some of the hotels use a self-service kiosk to allow the guests to log in to their network and access the Internet on their own.

Support Guest Access to WiFi

In this scenario, a SASE is used to provide guests access to WiFi. Here guests can use their ID and password to login into the network and get internet connectivity from the hotel. Some hotels even allow guests to connect with their mobile phone numbers rather than hard-coding them with ID and password.

Then, there are many WiFi devices like routers that have built-in SASE functionality. These devices can be used for guest internet access. They also have a built-in authentication server that allows guest login via a web page. Or via the web interface of the device itself.

Support Guest Access to Mobile Network

In this scenario, a SASE is used for providing cellular connectivity to guests through WiFi hotspots. One can also deploy a small cell on a rooftop that is connected to the hotel’s backhaul network through an Ethernet connection instead of a cellular connection. This setup provides an additional benefit of providing better indoor coverage on the hotel premises.

Support Guest Access to Corporate Network

In this scenario, offices provide guests with internet access through SASE as part of their Service Level Agreements (SLAs). In this case, SASE provides internet connectivity for guests for free and employees can also use it for free. That is if they wish to connect from outside office premises or their home network.

So, this allows employees to work from home or elsewhere outside office premises. All while still allowing them internet connectivity without having any VPN requirements or additional charges.

Support Guest Access to VMware Horizon View Session Hosts

In this scenario, VMware Horizon View servers are installed in corporate offices. But they need remote desktop services for providing applications. So they install SASE appliances at remote sites where users can connect using the RDP protocol provided by Horizon View servers.

Then, users can connect using the RDP protocol and get remote desktop access. This is using user credentials provided by the SASE service device.

If your company is looking for a secure access service edge or SASE, then you can follow these use cases for inspiration. Also, you can deploy a SASE appliance in your office lobby. Use it for guest internet access. Or deploy a SASE appliance in a public place You can then use the above-mentioned use cases as a reference point for your deployment.
